R&D will only get you so far …

which is why the ICT Policy Support Programme (PSP) exists. The European Commission, frustrated at how little of the billions of € of R&D actually gets to market, has a number of measures – Pilots type A and B, Thematic and Best Practice Networks – designed to bridge that gap between innovation and users.

A new instrument has been introduced for the current ICT PSP call – Public Procurement of Innovative services (PPI) pilots. Basically PPI will fully fund the development of a procurement specification for a new digital service, the procurement itself and provide 20% of the cost of the service being procured.

The call is looking for PPIs in eHealth and telecare specifically but with a raft of measures addressing other digital agenda hot topics.

Call 7 has a total of 135 M€ available, with 32.5M€ for Cloud and Smart Cities; 36M€ for Digital Content, open data and creativity and 39M€ for health, ageing well and inclusion. The call is open until 14 May 2013. There are, needless to say, lots of rules!
