HANDI operate a email discussion list firstname.lastname@example.org all new HANDI members are enrolled on the list, but can stop mail from the list or unsubscribe at anytime by sending the appropriate command to the listserver (see below)
Posting to the list
You can use the list to ask a question or raise an issue relating to health and care apps, digital tools and informatics and will usually get a quick and thoughtful response from other members.
To post to the list send your email to email@example.com and it will be copied to all members of the list. This process can take up to 10 minutes. When you send something to the list it is not possible to recall or delete it so think before you hit "send"
If you post to the list your email address will be visible to other list members, otherwise email address of members are not discoverable.
When you hit "reply" most email clients will reply to the WHOLE LIST not just the author of the post. While posts intended just for the author, but sent to the whole list in error, can be a source of endless amusement for others it can be embarrassing for the sender. If you want to make a personal reply you need to replace the list address with the sender email.
Please note, the list server will not accept attachments. Please provide a link instead - Contact us if you want to place the attachment on the HANDI web site so you can link to it there.
Configure your email client
No matter how gripping list traffic might be there will be times when you want to ignore it and we would strongly advise that you set up your email software to move list messages in to a folder that you can read or ignore as you please without list traffic swamping your important email. Filter on mail sent to firstname.lastname@example.org or with [HANDI-DISCUSS] in the subject
The Chatham House rule applies
It is a condition of participation that members follow the “Chatham House Rule” in relation to postings. i.e. You may freely use the information you learn from the list so long as in doing so you do not disclose the identity of the contributor without their express consent. Having said this, members should understand that HANDI has a large membership which is open to all is open to all and we cannot guarantee that all members will respect this rule so you should not post anything that would cause you serious problems if it became public.
Serious postings only
The list is for serious discussion of matters relating to health and care apps, digital tools and informatics. There are other forums for more general chat. Although we are happy to have the occasional more lighthearted post when it supports the discussion.
While we are happy that products, services and events are mentioned where relevant to discussions. Please make it clear if you have any beneficial interest that might have influenced your opinion. Blatant plugging or simple advertising in not welcomed if you are unsure please clear your proposed posting with email@example.com.
Be polite, legal, decent honest and truthful
Please be polite, avoid slanging matches and be tolerant of others failings. Be careful not to make remarks that might get you sued and be particularly careful not to make disparaging remarks that might damage the reputation or financial interests of others unless you are willing and able to defend your position.
The list is not proactively moderated and the HANDI cannot be responsible for any damage you may do to yourself or others by inappropriate postings.
Posting from alternate email addresses and rejected postings
You can only post to the list from an email address registered with the list. If you wish to be able to post from more than one email address please send details of additional addresses to firstname.lastname@example.org Normally only the first registered email address will receive list traffic with additional addresses set as "NOMAIL" to avoid you getting multiple copies of list messages. Should you wish to receive list traffic to more than one address once that address is registered you can set or clear the "NOMAIL" setting for it using the list server commands "MAIL" and "NOMAIL" (see below).
SPAM will be detected and not distributed to the list, but we get so much SPAM that we can't monitor rejected traffic to see if it contains anything rejected in error. If you post to the list you should receive a copy of your posting within 5 minutes. If you don't then it probably has been blocked - Try agian and contact email@example.com if the problem persists
You can carry out basic management of the lists via email (see below) SEND THESE MESSAGE TO THE LISTSERVER ROBOT firstname.lastname@example.org NOT THE LIST!!!!
You can post comments, complaints, suggestions and requests for help to the list. But where something relates just to you or is not likely to be of general interest email the email@example.com NOT the list
List server Commands
You can send commands to the list server to carry out a number of tasks to do this send the command(s) as the only text in an email to firstname.lastname@example.org DO NOT SEND COMMANDS TO THE NORMAL LIST ADDRESS
The most useful commands are:
UNSUBSCRIBE discuss or UNS handi-discuss – This will remove you from the list.
To rejoin send SUB handi-discuss – You will have to wait for your request to be approved by the list administrator.
NOMAIL handi-discuss – This will stop mail from the list to the address you post from
NOMAIL handi-discuss YYYY-MM-DD – This will stop mail until the specified date
MAIL handi-discuss – This will restart mail after a NOMAIL
HELP – This will give a list of all commands and further options
Commands should each be on a new line and there should be no other text in the email. Add STOP as the last command if your email systems adds a signature or disclaimer after you send an email to stop the listsever trying to process this text.
